Pakistan disputes BSF account of deadly Punjab border shooting, names two dead as civilians

Pakistani outlets, citing security sources, named the two men killed in Friday's Punjab border shooting as unarmed civilians from Ladhar village — directly contradicting India's account of an infiltration attempt foiled by the BSF.

Pakistani outlets on Friday disputed India’s account of a deadly shooting along the Punjab sector of the India-Pakistan border, naming the two dead men as civilians and alleging Indian border troops opened fire on them without warning.

Daily Pakistan Global and Aaj English TV, both citing Pakistani security sources, identified the deceased as Azmat Rasool, son of Ataullah, and Mohsin Jutt — residents of Jattan Wali Haveli in Ladhar village near the Kasur border. The outlets reported that three unarmed villagers had moved “a few steps beyond a border pillar” when Border Security Force personnel allegedly fired on them without warning; the third man was injured. The sources said none of the three had attempted to cross the border fence, and described the shooting as a violation of the border agreement and standard operating procedures governing the frontier. They also accused Indian media of labelling the men “infiltrators” as part of a “false flag” narrative.

India’s account, carried earlier by PTI and IANS, says BSF troops in Punjab’s Tarn Taran district near Rajoke village challenged the men and opened fire only after repeated warnings were ignored as they kept moving toward the Indian side — killing two, while a third fled back across. Indian officials said the identities of the dead had not yet been established and the bodies were handed to the Punjab Police for post-mortem examination.

The two versions of Friday’s incident directly contradict each other, and neither side’s claims could be independently verified. Flip News reported the Indian account earlier on Friday.
