UKMTO reports tanker struck by multiple projectiles off Qatar's Al Shamal coast, casualties reported

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations agency says a tanker was struck by multiple projectiles about 51 nautical miles north of Al Shamal, Qatar, with casualties reported aboard; the vessel was not identified and authorities are investigating.

A tanker sailing off Qatar’s north coast was struck by multiple projectiles, with casualties reported among those on board, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) agency said on Wednesday, 7 October 2026.

The incident took place about 51 nautical miles (94 kilometres) north of Al Shamal, Qatar, according to UKMTO’s warning 158-26, which was republished by Shafaq News. The agency said authorities were investigating but did not name the vessel, specify the ship’s origin, or say how many people were hurt or how badly the tanker was damaged.

“Responsibility for the attack has not been established, and UKMTO did not specify the type or origin of the projectiles,” Shafaq News reported.

Arab News Pakistan, also citing the UKMTO report, said the British maritime agency confirmed the strike and noted that authorities were investigating.

The strike marks the first reported tanker attack off Qatar in the current shipping-attack arc, which had previously centred on the Strait of Hormuz. Shafaq News cited Reuters as counting at least 12 attacks on tankers, liquefied natural gas carriers and liquefied petroleum gas carriers in and around the maritime gateway between 28 September and 5 October — the highest weekly level since the Iran war began on 28 February 2026.
