Russia struck Kyiv with jet-powered drones early on Wednesday, killing at least two and injuring more than 30, hours after Zelenskiy met Trump in New York to discuss a possible energy ceasefire.

Russia struck Kyiv with jet-powered drones early on Wednesday, hours after President Volodymyr Zelenskiy met US President Donald Trump in New York on Tuesday.

At least two people were killed and more than 30 injured in an attack lasting from morning into the early afternoon, officials said — one of the heaviest strikes since Russia began hitting Kyiv with high-flying jet drones that are harder to intercept. An earlier report put the toll at one killed and seven injured; figures are still developing, city authorities said.

Two petrol stations were hit, including one run by Ukrnafta — the sixth of its facilities attacked in recent weeks. Railway infrastructure, warehouses, a nine-storey non-residential building and a business centre were also struck, city authorities and rail operator Ukrzaliznytsia said; one railway worker was injured.

Separately, a Russian aerial bomb killed at least four and injured four in a village in the frontline Donetsk region, the regional governor said on Telegram.

The strikes followed Zelenskiy’s meeting with Trump, where he discussed a potential bilateral ceasefire on energy targets and asked for more US Patriot missiles ahead of a feared Russian winter campaign against Ukraine’s electricity infrastructure. No agreements were reached, he said. The Kremlin said on Wednesday there were no grounds for peace talks and no high-level meetings planned.

Zelenskiy said Russia had deployed many drones, many of them jet-powered. “Russia continues to turn civilian and critical infrastructure into targets: pharmaceutical facilities, gas stations, railways, communications infrastructure, and shopping malls,” he said on X.
