One killed and five injured in Ukrainian drone attack on St Petersburg
Overnight drone strikes hit an oil terminal, a logistics centre and a data centre in Russia's second city, Governor Alexander Beglov said.
One person was killed and five others were injured in an overnight Ukrainian drone attack on St Petersburg, the governor of Russia’s second-largest city, Alexander Beglov, said on Sunday.
Fires broke out at the St Petersburg oil terminal, the Ruchyi oil depot and industrial warehouses in the Kolpinsky District, officials said. Twelve apartment buildings and two houses were damaged in the attack, Beglov added.
Russian e-commerce firm Ozon said its St Petersburg logistics centre caught fire. Russian internet company VK said a data centre in the Leningrad region was attacked by drones, adding that its services remain “normally available” to users.
Ukrainian monitoring channels reported the attack began at 2:50 a.m. local time. The city of 5.6 million people lies about 856 kilometres north of the Ukrainian border.
Leningrad Oblast governor Aleksandr Drozdenko said 127 Ukrainian drones were shot down over the region and that debris damaged four cars in a parking lot. The Russian defence ministry said air defence units shot down 1,015 Ukrainian drones over Russian regions overnight.
The Kyiv Independent said it could not independently verify the targets or the extent of the damage.
