Injured toll rises to 15 in Ukrainian drone attack on St Petersburg

Local authorities say one person was killed and 15 injured in the overnight drone strike, as Kyiv claims it hit a VK data centre near the city.

One person was killed and 15 were injured in a Ukrainian drone attack on oil facilities, logistics sites and data centres in St Petersburg and the Leningrad region, local authorities said on Sunday, a sharp rise from the five injured reported earlier in the day.

St Petersburg governor Alexander Beglov said fires had broken out at the St Petersburg oil terminal, an oil depot and industrial warehouses. Russian e-commerce company Ozon said its St Petersburg logistics hub was on fire, while internet firm VK said its data centre in the Leningrad region had been attacked by drones, adding that its services remained available to users as normal.

Ukrainian drone producer Fire Point said on Sunday that the Ukrainian military had struck a VK data centre near St Petersburg. The Russian Defence Ministry said air defence units had downed 1,015 Ukrainian drones over Russian regions overnight.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov, responding to a question about how Russia might answer the attack on St Petersburg, said: “The Kyiv regime is resisting. But this cannot change the course of events,” the TASS news agency reported.
