RSF drone strike kills five at Kordofan University dormitory, medics say
Sudan Doctors Network says at least five civilians were killed and 47 injured in a drone strike on a dormitory at Kordofan University in El Obeid, attributing the attack to the Rapid Support Forces.
At least five civilians were killed and 47 injured when a drone struck a dormitory at Kordofan University in El Obeid, North Kordofan, according to a statement from the independent Sudan Doctors Network reported by Anadolu Agency this week.
The network attributed the strike to drones operated by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), and cautioned that the casualty figures were preliminary.
It described the attack as part of a continuing pattern of RSF strikes on civilians and civilian facilities, saying the targeting of student housing and educational institutions was a serious violation of international humanitarian law.
The network warned of intensified attacks on civilian and public-service facilities and called on the United Nations and international humanitarian and human rights organisations to condemn the strikes, hold those responsible to account, and support urgent medical assistance for the wounded.
El Obeid, the capital of North Kordofan state, has been hit repeatedly by drone attacks in recent months. On September 20, the network reported two people killed and 20 injured in strikes on residential areas of the city.
The RSF did not immediately comment. The war between the Sudanese army and the RSF has continued since April 2023, killing tens of thousands and displacing millions, according to Anadolu Agency.
