Trump predicts Iran war will end 'very quickly' and promises cheaper petrol

Donald Trump told a Kentucky rally on Saturday that the war with Iran would end 'very quickly' and promised petrol prices would fall below pre-war levels — while defending US strikes on Iranian nuclear sites as a 'little excursion' that 'knocked out their nuclear capacity'.

US President Donald Trump predicted on Saturday that the war with Iran would end “very quickly”, telling a campaign rally in Kentucky that American petrol prices would fall once hostilities cease.

“It’s going to end very quickly. When it ends, your gas prices are going to be lower than what they were before,” Trump said, according to The Tribune, which carried the ANI report.

Addressing supporters ahead of next month’s midterm elections, Trump defended the US strikes on Iranian nuclear targets, describing the operation as a “little excursion” and claiming it had crippled Tehran’s nuclear programme. “You know, when I did the little excursion to the Islamic, the beautiful Islamic Republic of Iran, we beat the shit out of them. But when I did that excursion, we knocked out their nuclear capacity,” he said. He added that preventing a nuclear-armed Iran remained paramount: “They cannot have a nuclear weapon; they can’t, because they’ll use it.”

Meanwhile, Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh said ending hostilities across all fronts was essential to lasting peace, warning that continued fighting anywhere would prolong the wider conflict. He accused the US and Israel of violating a June memorandum of understanding and reiterated Tehran’s offer to reopen the Strait of Hormuz within seven days, Gulf News reported. The remarks were also noted in Al Jazeera’s live coverage.
