Trump gives "complete and total" endorsement to Netanyahu nine days before Israeli election

Donald Trump has given Benjamin Netanyahu his "complete and total" endorsement in Israel's October 27 parliamentary election, nine days out from the first vote since the October 2023 Hamas attack, reversing weeks of public hesitation about his ally.

Donald Trump has endorsed Benjamin Netanyahu for Israel’s parliamentary election on October 27, giving his ally the full backing Netanyahu had long sought with just over a week to go (Reuters).

“Bibi Netanyahu has been Strong, Brave, and Brilliant in the face of tremendous opposition, including that coming from even Israel, itself,” Trump wrote on Truth Social on Sunday. “Please let this Letter serve to represent my Complete and Total Endorsement of Bibi Netanyahu in his upcoming Race for Re-Election as Prime Minister of Israel.” He added: “BIBI NETANYAHU WILL NEVER LET YOU DOWN!”

Trump called Netanyahu a “Great Warrior Prime Minister” and hinted at a possible resumption of the unpopular war with Iran — launched jointly with Israel eight months ago — if the Iranians do not “change their ways” (CNN).

The endorsement reverses Trump’s public hesitation: he told Time magazine earlier this month he was “not involved in [Israeli] politics anymore” and told Newsmax on Thursday he did “not trust anybody in the world of politics” (CNN).

Netanyahu thanked Trump on X for “tremendous support”, writing: “Together we will complete the mission!” (Gulf News). In a Likud video he said “we have crushed Iran” and that the partnership with Trump would “continue in order to eliminate the Iranian threat over the next two years, or even sooner”.

Separately, Trump told a Kentucky rally the Iran war would end “very quickly” and predicted US fuel prices would fall below pre-war levels once it does (Gulf News).
