Trump says he deserves Nobel Peace Prize — but doubts he will get it
Donald Trump told reporters he should win the Nobel Peace Prize after wading into eight conflicts — but said: "They have a reputation for maybe not giving it to people like me."

US President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize, while acknowledging he may never receive it.
“I don’t know what their decision is going to be,” Trump said of the 2026 award, which the Norwegian Nobel Committee announces on Friday. “They have a reputation for maybe not giving it to people like me.”
Trump said he should get the prize after wading into eight conflicts since taking office. The leaders of Cambodia, Israel and Pakistan have said they nominated him, though Reuters notes there is no way to verify those claims.
Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado gave Trump her 2025 Nobel Peace Prize medal in January as she sought US support for her efforts in Venezuela, the report adds. Trump has repeatedly said he deserves what Reuters describes as “what may be the world’s most prestigious award” since returning to the White House.
But the report notes that parties to some conflicts Trump claims to have resolved dispute his diplomatic role, and fighting has flared again in some of those regions — including the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Cambodia–Thailand border. It adds that a resolution to Russia’s war in Ukraine has eluded Trump.
Pope Leo, the International Criminal Court and the UN special rapporteur for the Palestinian Territories are among the favourites for this year’s prize, according to Reuters.
