Trump and Xi agree to back each other's APEC and G20 summits after Washington talks

Donald Trump and Xi Jinping agreed during their Washington meeting to support each other in hosting the APEC leaders' meeting and the 2026 G20 summit, and exchanged views on the Middle East, Ukraine and the Korean Peninsula, Xinhua reported.

US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed during a meeting in Washington to support each other in hosting the APEC Economic Leaders’ Meeting and the G20 summit in 2026, China’s Xinhua news agency reported on Thursday.

Xi and Trump also exchanged views on the Middle East, Ukraine and the Korean Peninsula during the meeting, Xinhua reported. The account was carried by Reuters, which reported the meeting from Washington on 24 September.

The agreement on summit hosting is the first reported substantive outcome of the leaders’ talks during Xi’s 23–25 September visit to the United States, which China described as an opportunity for “in-depth exchanges of views” on US-China relations and world peace.
