UKMTO reports two tanker attacks off Saudi Arabia's Jubail in a single day

UKMTO reported two Friday attacks on tankers off Jubail, 68nm and 78nm northeast of the Saudi port, with all crews safe, and Reuters could not establish whether the two reports describe one incident or two

Two tankers were attacked off Saudi Arabia’s Jubail on Friday, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said in two reports issued on Saturday, though it is not yet clear whether the reports describe one incident or two.

An unknown projectile struck a tanker 68 nautical miles northeast of Jubail on Friday, UKMTO said. All crew members were safe and had been evacuated, and no environmental impact had been reported at the time of the report, Reuters reported.

UKMTO later issued a second report saying a tanker had been attacked by a rocket-propelled grenade fired from a small boat 78 nautical miles northeast of Jubail on Friday, damaging its aft port quarter. All crew members were safe and accounted for, but the full extent of the damage and any environmental impact were not yet known, Arab News reported.

Reuters said it could not immediately establish whether the two reports referred to the same incident.

The identities of the vessels are contested by maritime security agencies, so the ships are identified here only as described by UKMTO. The incidents are the latest in a wave of attacks on commercial shipping in and around the Strait of Hormuz, Rudaw reported.
