Zelenskyy says Washington floated trilateral Putin meeting at December G20

Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Saturday that Washington had proposed a trilateral meeting with Vladimir Putin — possibly in the US during December's G20 — and that the American side had signalled a meeting could happen as early as next week.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on Saturday that a trilateral meeting involving Russian President Vladimir Putin could take place in the United States during the G20 summit in December, adding that confirmation from Moscow and Washington was still awaited.

In a post on X, Zelenskyy said the United States was actively involved in negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, stressing that pressure should be increased on Moscow rather than Kyiv. He said he was ready to participate in peace talks “anywhere” and “in any format”, and that the American side had indicated a meeting could take place “next week”.

“The American negotiating track will continue. We’re counting on them to put more pressure on Putin, not on us. Otherwise, it’s simply unfair,” he wrote, according to the Economic Times. “We’re ready to negotiate anywhere, and we’re ready for any format: three-way, two-way, four-way, five-plus — it doesn’t matter. What matters is peace.”

Zelenskyy said Washington had proposed the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, another European country or the United States — during the upcoming G20 — as possible venues for a trilateral meeting. He also criticised US President Donald Trump’s decision to waive Russia-related sanctions and tariffs as a wrong move, Asianet Newsable reported.

The remarks were also carried by The Tribune and The Hindu BusinessLine.
