49ers stay perfect at 4-0 with gritty 24-14 win over Broncos
George Kittle's 56-yard catch-and-run touchdown with just over two minutes left sealed a 24-14 San Francisco win over Denver at Levi's Stadium, keeping the 49ers unbeaten at 4-0.
The San Francisco 49ers moved to 4-0 with a hard-fought 24-14 win over the Denver Broncos at Levi’s Stadium on Sunday, with George Kittle’s 56-yard catch-and-run touchdown in the final minutes providing the cushion.
Denver struck first through a 52-yard Wil Lutz field goal, and the teams went into half-time level at 3-3 after defensive lineman Zach Allen blocked a 49ers field goal before the break, Broncos Wire reported.
The game turned in the third quarter when Broncos returner Marvin Mims fumbled a punt and San Francisco recovered at the Denver 28-yard line. Brock Purdy found Deebo Samuel for a one-yard touchdown to make it 10-3.
Denver pulled within three at 17-14 with 4:05 remaining after Bo Nix threw a 13-yard touchdown to Jaylen Waddle and Tyler Badie converted the two-point attempt. But Kittle took a perfectly timed screen 56 yards to the end zone with just over two minutes left to make it 24-14. Lutz then missed a 58-yard field goal and the 49ers kneeled out the clock.
The Broncos fell to 2-2 and were hit hard by injuries: star cornerback Pat Surtain went down with a non-contact ankle injury before half-time, Riley Moss left with a ribs injury, and wide receiver Pat Bryant was carted off with an ankle injury.
