49ers' Mike Evans avoids Achilles tear, expected to miss 'a little time'

Shanahan says the 49ers wide receiver's Achilles is intact and no further testing is needed; he could return after the Week 8 bye.

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Mike Evans avoided a serious Achilles injury in Monday night’s 23-17 win over the Washington Commanders, with head coach Kyle Shanahan confirming the tendon is intact and no further testing is needed, Niners Wire reported.

“Just the same thing that was bothering him all week,” Shanahan said after the game. “Just acted up too much in the game. Couldn’t go. We’ll see how he feels this week.”

Evans had missed the entire week of practice with what the team termed Achilles soreness, suited up for Monday night, and was seen stretching the tendon during the game before exiting after a catch early in the third quarter, according to Niners Wire. He had three catches for 94 yards before departing.

NBC Sports Bay Area’s Jennifer Lee Chan reported that Evans did not tear the Achilles and is expected to “miss a little time,” with a possible return after the 49ers’ Week 8 bye, NBC Sports reported. The timing is convenient: San Francisco plays Sunday at 10:00am Pacific in Atlanta against the Falcons, then gets its bye week.

Shanahan added that Demarcus Robinson is unlikely to come off injured reserve in Week 7, but Christian Kirk could return to bolster a depleted receiver room.
