Tiger Shroff has been given police protection after the shooting outside a football ground in Mumbai’s Juhu area on Sunday, The Statesman reported, citing police sources.

The actor had no security cover before the attack. Mumbai Police’s Protection Branch has now deployed bodyguards, and personnel from the local police station have also been assigned to him. The category of protection has not been disclosed.

Separately, Suniel Shetty reacted to the attack at the naming ceremony of ‘Bappi Lahiri Marg’ in Mumbai. “The whole world loves Tiger and Jackie Dada, and if something like this can happen to him, it could happen to anyone. It shouldn’t have happened,” he said, stressing the need for safety (Bollywood Hungama).

Shetty added that Tiger “is so focused on sports and exercise; I don’t know why this occurred”, and spoke of his childhood friendship with Tiger’s father Jackie Shroff: “For me, Jackie Dada is a childhood friend, and I just hope everything turns out well.” He said he was relieved Tiger himself was unharmed: “it was his driver who got hurt, and he is currently recovering.”

Investigators suspect a Lawrence Bishnoi gang link and a possible extortion motive, but police have not conclusively established the motive behind the shooting.

The three suspects have been granted a 48-hour transit remand and handover to Mumbai Police is under way; two have been named as Rehan (18) of Sonipat, Haryana, and Hritik Kumar (22) of Begusarai, Bihar.
