Israel's Abu Farchi sent off for gun gesture celebration in Austria defeat

Israel forward Saied Abu Farchi was shown a second yellow card for grabbing the corner flag and simulating a gun after scoring against Austria, leaving Israel with 10 men in a 3-1 UEFA Nations League defeat.

Israel forward Saied Abu Farchi was sent off after using the corner flag to simulate a gun in his goal celebration during Israel’s 3-1 UEFA Nations League defeat to Austria on Thursday, Reuters reported.

Abu Farchi headed home in the 55th minute at the Raiffeisen Arena in Linz to bring Israel level after Romano Schmid had given Austria the lead from the penalty spot before half-time. The 20-year-old then ran towards the corner, grabbed the flag and made a gun-firing gesture as he celebrated.

The referee had booked Abu Farchi four minutes earlier and showed him a second yellow card for the celebration, followed by a red, leaving Israel with 10 players for the rest of the match.

Austria regained the lead in the 90th minute through Phillipp Mwene, who finished after a cross from Paul Wanner, and Sasa Kalajdzic added a third goal in stoppage time with a close-range finish, The Jerusalem Post reported.
