Aston Villa have sacked manager Natalia Arroyo after a winless start to the Women’s Super League season.
Villa have drawn two and lost two of their opening four league matches, with Sunday’s 4-0 defeat by Tottenham in the WSL proving the final straw. BBC Sport was told the poor start to the season led to the club’s decision.
The Spaniard joined Villa in January 2025 and had another two years remaining on her contract. Villa opened the campaign with a draw against Chelsea on the opening weekend. Villa were due to play Newcastle in the Women’s League Cup on Wednesday, with kick-off at 19:30 BST.
Arroyo is the first managerial departure of the WSL season. Former Manchester United boss Marc Skinner and ex-Brighton head coach Dario Vidosic both stepped down earlier this year.
As a player, Arroyo turned out for Barcelona and Spain before retiring in 2009.
