Brewers set up NLCS rematch with Dodgers after knocking out Padres

Milwaukee beat San Diego 3-1 to book a second straight NLCS date with the Dodgers, who swept them last year.

Milwaukee will have another crack at the Dodgers. The Brewers sealed a 3-1 win over the San Diego Padres at Petco Park on Wednesday night to take the National League Division Series 3-1 and reach a second straight National League Championship Series against Los Angeles.

Jackson Chourio’s tiebreaking single did the damage, and Garrett Mitchell’s spectacular leaping catch at the centre-field fence robbed Manny Machado of a potential game-tying homer in the eighth. The victory ended a 12-game postseason road losing streak stretching back to 2018, which had tied the longest in major-league history, and was only the second road clinch in franchise history.

The NLCS opens at American Family Field on Sunday, 11 October, with Game 2 in Milwaukee the following night, before the series moves to Dodger Stadium for Games 3 and 4 on 14-15 October. Game 5, if needed, is in Los Angeles on 16 October, with Games 6 and 7 back in Milwaukee on 18 and 19 October. Start times are yet to be released; every game airs on Fox or FS1.

Milwaukee holds home-field advantage after a franchise-record 103 wins, with Cy Young favourite Jacob Misiorowski lined up to start Game 1 on a week’s rest. The Dodgers, who swept last year’s NLCS before a second straight World Series title, closed out Atlanta 4-1 in Game 4 on Wednesday and chase a third consecutive crown. They went 3-4 against Milwaukee in the regular season.
