De'Von Achane out for season with torn ACL, Dolphins place star back on injured reserve

Tests on Monday confirmed De'Von Achane tore his ACL in Sunday's loss to the Chiefs, and the Dolphins placed their star running back on injured reserve before season-ending surgery.

The Miami Dolphins have lost their star running back for the season. Tests on Monday confirmed De’Von Achane tore his ACL in Sunday’s 24-10 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, and the team placed him on injured reserve on Monday afternoon, before surgery is even scheduled.

Achane suffered the non-contact knee injury on just his third carry of the game at Hard Rock Stadium. He walked the sideline in the second half without an ice pack, raising hopes the injury was minor, but head coach Jeff Hafley was downbeat after the game, saying “it does not sound very optimistic at this moment”. Further medical testing on Monday confirmed the Dolphins’ worst fears.

“My heart breaks for the guy,” Hafley said, via the Palm Beach Post, praising Achane’s leadership and energy after the 26th-ranked player on the NFL’s top-100 list earned a captaincy role.

The loss is a devastating blow for a 0-3 Dolphins side already struggling with a thin receiver corps and a new quarterback, Malik Willis. Through two games Achane had 31 carries for 110 yards and seven catches for 49 yards; last season he racked up a combined 1,838 yards from scrimmage. Ian Rapoport and Adam Schefter of ESPN report he will miss the remainder of the 2026 season, with a possible return for Week 1 of the 2027 campaign if rehabilitation goes smoothly.

Miami’s running game falls to Jaylen Wright — day to day with a stinger and foot injuries — and Ollie Gordon II, who carried 17 times for 41 yards against Kansas City.
