Dream sweep Mystics to reach WNBA semifinals, face Liberty next

Allisha Gray's 22 points and Angel Reese's 15 points powered a 93-75 Game 2 win as the Atlanta Dream swept the Washington Mystics 2-0 to reach their first WNBA semifinal since 2018, where the New York Liberty await.

The Atlanta Dream completed a first-round sweep of the Washington Mystics on Wednesday, winning 93-75 in Game 2 to advance to the WNBA semifinals for the first time since 2018.

All five Atlanta starters finished in double figures, led by Allisha Gray’s team-high 22 points. Jordin Canada posted a double-double with 19 points and 11 assists, while Rhyne Howard and Angel Reese added 15 points apiece.

Reese also grabbed seven rebounds and blocked three shots, but her night carried a sting: she was assessed a technical foul in the fourth quarter after appearing to say something to the Mystics’ Michaela Onyenwere following a block with 4:08 remaining. Under league rules, a player’s first two playoff technicals each carry a $500 fine.

The Dream never trailed, and after Washington cut a 15-point deficit to three in the third quarter, Atlanta answered with a 13-0 fourth-quarter run to put the game away, outscoring the Mystics 28-17 in the final frame. Howard fouled out with just over five minutes left in a game that featured 53 combined fouls.

Sonia Citron led all scorers with 25 points for the Mystics, and Kiki Iriafen added 15 points and 16 rebounds.

The fourth-seeded Dream now meet the eighth-seed New York Liberty in a semifinal series that begins Sunday.
