Harry Kane equals Peter Shilton's 125-cap England record with double in 3-0 win over Czechia
Harry Kane marked his record-equalling 125th England cap with two goals as England beat Czechia 3-0 at Wembley in the Nations League, drawing level with Peter Shilton's all-time men's appearance record.

Harry Kane equalled Peter Shilton’s all-time England men’s appearance record on a milestone night at Wembley, marking his 125th cap with two goals as England beat Czechia 3-0 in the UEFA Nations League on Tuesday.
The 33-year-old Bayern Munich striker drew level with Shilton, whose record of 125 caps has stood since 1990, at the same stadium where his England journey began more than 11 years ago. Already his country’s all-time leading scorer, Kane took his international tally to 91 goals with the double (https://www.reuters.com/sports/soccer/kane-matches-shiltons-england-appearance-mark-milestone-wembley-night-2026-10-06/).
England opened the scoring through a bizarre Vladimir Coufal own goal in the 27th minute, before Kane doubled the lead in the 40th minute — his 90th England goal — and headed home a third from a Lewis Hall corner in the 57th for goal number 91. Kane, who hit the bar earlier in the second half, was substituted late on with Dominic Calvert-Lewin taking his place (https://www.englandfootball.com/; https://talksport.com/football/4625205/england-vs-czech-republic-live-commentary-score-updates/).
“I think it’s always special, even just walking out now and seeing the stadium, just the excitement of what’s to come,” Kane told ITV. “I try and never take it for granted. It’s obviously a special night tonight, but as always, we’ve got to focus on the job.”
Shilton posted a congratulatory video message on X: “You will go on and beat (the record) in November, I’m sure of that, and maybe go on and set a record that will never be beaten. Because you’re still going strong, Harry, still playing well and scoring goals, and I know how much dedication and hard work you’ve actually put into achieving this.”
England head coach Thomas Tuchel revealed Shilton was his unlikely childhood hero. “When I was a young boy, I was Peter Shilton in goal,” Tuchel said. “So it cannot be a better player to take the record of Shilton” (https://www.thesun.co.uk/sport/40591141/thomas-tuchel-hero-peter-shilton-harry-kane-england-record/).
The win moves England within touching distance of the Nations League quarter-finals: victory combined with a Croatia defeat to Spain in Split would leave England needing one point from their final two games next month to reach the last eight. England have not reached the Nations League knockout stages since 2019, when they lost to the Netherlands in the semi-finals (https://www.thetimes.com/sport/football/article/england-vs-czech-live-score-nations-league-2026-latest-news-sv6l6trh5).
