Arsenal ground out a 1-0 Premier League win at Nottingham Forest on Sunday, with substitute Noni Madueke’s deflected 80th-minute strike settling a game the Gunners never truly controlled at the City Ground, The Times reported.

Madueke cut in from the left and struck on his weaker foot, his effort taking what The Times called “a ridiculously unkind deflection” off Forest defender Jair Cunha past goalkeeper Matz Sels, who had otherwise had it covered.

It was Arsenal’s only shot on target of the entire game, according to the Scottish Sun, and came with just ten minutes remaining after the champions had again failed to click into gear.

Forest had chances to take something from the match. Chris Wood hesitated when a late chance fell to him, and Murillo curled an effort high and wide in added time. Declan Rice also produced a heroic block to stop Wood levelling for the hosts.

The win moved Arsenal back up to second in the table, while Forest’s miserable start continued — one point from their opening eight games, leaving them in the relegation places.

Mikel Arteta had made five changes from the side that beat Lille 3-0 in the Champions League in midweek, bringing in Ben White, Riccardo Calafiori, Bukayo Saka, Martin Ødegaard and Kai Havertz.
