Graeme Dott jailed for seven years for child sex abuse
Former world snooker champion Graeme Dott, 49, has been jailed for seven years at the High Court in Edinburgh after being found guilty of sexually abusing a young girl and boy.
Former world snooker champion Graeme Dott has been jailed for seven years after being found guilty of sexually abusing two children.
Dott, 49, of Larkhall, Lanarkshire, was sentenced today (29 September) at the High Court in Edinburgh. Jurors convicted him last month, on 24 August, of two charges of lewd and libidinous behaviour towards a young girl and a young boy, spanning 1993 to 2010. Both victims were of primary school age at the time.
Sentencing him, Lord Harrower said Dott’s “behaviour towards both children involved a gross breach of trust”, adding: “You robbed the complainers of a significant part of their childhood.” Dott was also placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely.
The court heard the charges relating to the girl dated from 1993 to 1996, while those relating to the boy covered 2006 to 2010. Throughout the trial Dott denied the allegations, describing them as “nonsense” and “lies”.
Dott won the World Snooker Championship in 2006, beating Peter Ebdon in the final at the Crucible in Sheffield, and reached the final again in 2004 and 2010. The World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association suspended him in April 2025 when the charges were announced, and revoked his membership on the day of his conviction, removing him from the World Snooker Hall of Fame.
