5th T20I: Rain washes out decider as India and West Indies share series 2-2

Persistent rain forced the abandonment of the fifth T20I in Bengaluru with India 118/5 after 7.4 overs of a nine-over game, leaving the five-match series drawn 2-2.

Rain had the final word at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday, as the fifth and final T20I between India and the West Indies was abandoned without a result, leaving the five-match series shared 2-2.

The match was called off at 10:16 pm with India 118 for five in 7.4 overs of a game already reduced to nine overs a side. With the cut-off for a five-over chase expiring at 10:21 pm, there was insufficient time for the West Indies to pursue a revised target of 84.

The washout denied the visitors a landmark: their first bilateral series victory in India since 2002.

India’s brief innings still entertained. Ishan Kishan smashed 30 off 10 balls, while Naman Dhir struck an unbeaten 24 off six. Shamar Springer took 2 for 17, bowling Sanju Samson and dismissing Tilak Varma in the eighth over before the rain intensified. Keemo Paul finished with 2 for 34.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar returned to the India side after an absence of 1,437 days. Shivam Dube was included in the playing XI, Nitish Kumar Reddy missed out through illness and Mayank Yadav was left out.
