India's women's compound archery team wins Asian Games gold, equalling world record

Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep beat China 238-234 to win women's compound archery team gold at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, equalling the world record.

India’s women’s compound archery team won gold at the Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya on Wednesday, beating China 238-234 in the final — a score that equalled the world record.

The trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Chikitha Taniparthi and Prithika Pradeep took control early in the gold-medal match, opening with three perfect 10s and never relinquishing the lead, according to the live coverage. They had reached the final by edging South Korea in a tense semifinal.

After the win, Vennam said the team’s mantra had been simple: focus on the next shot and do not dwell on mistakes, the Economic Times reported.

The gold added to a rich Indian day in the archery arena. It opened India’s archery gold account at these Games, following the five archery golds the country won last time, the Hindustan Times noted. Earlier, Sahil Jadhav and Chikitha Taniparthi beat South Korea in a shoot-off to win the compound mixed team gold, while the women’s squash team assured India of a medal with a 2-0 quarterfinal win over Singapore.
