Jayden Daniels dislocates left elbow again in Commanders' loss to Cowboys

Washington Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels dislocated his left elbow for the second time in less than a year during Sunday’s 37–20 loss to the Dallas Cowboys — the same injury that sidelined him for most of the second half of last season.

It happened on the final snap of the first half. With three seconds left and Washington at the Dallas 1-yard line, left guard Chris Paul stepped on Daniels’ foot as he backed away from centre; his non-throwing elbow bent awkwardly as he braced himself and threw incomplete. He was carted off with a towel over his head.

Coach Dan Quinn confirmed the dislocation after the game, saying X-rays showed no fracture and that Daniels flew home with the team, with further imaging scheduled for Monday. He said the team would rally around veteran backup Marcus Mariota “until Jayden’s back”.

Daniels dislocated the same elbow in a blowout loss to Seattle on Nov 2 last season and missed all but one game in the second half. Before exiting, he went 11 of 17 for 96 yards with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Stefon Diggs, plus 69 rushing yards on seven carries.

“It took the air out of us a little bit,” said Terry McLaurin. Mariota called it “very, very unfortunate”. Washington fall to 0–2.
