J.J. Spaun wins BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth after late final-round drama

J.J. Spaun birdied four of his last five holes to win the BMW PGA Championship by two strokes at Wentworth, after Manuel Elvira double-bogeyed the 18th.

J.J. Spaun has won the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, birdieing four of his last five holes to claim a dramatic two-stroke victory in the DP World Tour’s flagship event on Sunday.

The American closed with a five-under 67 to finish on 17 under par, sealing his second DP World Tour title after his 2025 U.S. Open triumph, the DP World Tour reported.

Spaun entered the final day one shot off the lead but had slipped further behind by the 14th tee. A hat-trick of birdies and another gain on the last set the target at 17 under — and when Manuel Elvira, who had eagled the 17th to join him at the summit, double-bogeyed the 18th, the title was Spaun’s.

Elvira signed for a 70 to finish in a four-way tie for second on 15 under, alongside Masters champions Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott and US PGA Championship winner Aaron Rai.

The 2025 U.S. Open champion revealed he had used his omission from Brandt Snedeker’s USA Presidents Cup team as motivation this week. The win makes Spaun only the third American to win the title after Arnold Palmer and Billy Horschel, and the first player to win on debut since An Byeong-hun in 2015.

“I knew the whole day I had to stay patient because of the closing stretch at Wentworth because you could go eagle, eagle and you could also go bogey, bogey,” Spaun said.

Spaun collected the $1.53 million winner’s share of the $9 million purse, Golf News Net reported.
