Michael Jordan's 'Last Dance' jersey sells for record $12.26m

Michael Jordan's game-worn jersey from Game 3 of the 1998 NBA Finals sold for $12.26 million at Pharrell Williams' Joopiter auction house on September 29, a new record for a piece of Jordan memorabilia.

Michael Jordan’s game-worn jersey from Game 3 of the 1998 NBA Finals sold for a record $12.26 million on Tuesday, September 29, at Pharrell Williams’ Joopiter auction house, breaking the record for a piece of Jordan memorabilia.

The jersey comes from Jordan’s sixth and final NBA championship season — his celebrated “Last Dance” campaign with the Chicago Bulls. It was put up for sale by entrepreneur Ryan Gough, and carried a pre-auction estimate of $10–15 million. The auction attracted a single bid before closing on Tuesday evening.

The $12.26 million price — including the buyer’s premium on a $10 million hammer price — surpassed the previous Jordan record of $10.09 million, set in September 2022 by his game-worn jersey from Game 1 of the same Finals series at Sotheby’s.

Jordan wore the white mesh jersey on June 7, 1998, as the Bulls demolished the Utah Jazz 96-54 at the United Center to take a 2-1 series lead. He finished with 24 points, three rebounds and two assists in 43 minutes. Chicago went on to win the Finals in six games, securing the franchise’s sixth title.

The jersey remains well short of the all-time record for a piece of game-worn sports memorabilia: the jersey Babe Ruth wore when he called his shot in the 1932 World Series sold for $24.12 million in 2024.
