NFL suspends 49ers owner Jed York for six games and fines him $500,000

The NFL has suspended San Francisco 49ers principal owner Jed York for six regular-season games and fined him $500,000 for violating the league's personal conduct policy.

The NFL has suspended San Francisco 49ers principal owner Jed York for six regular-season games and fined him $500,000 for violating the league’s personal conduct policy, the league announced on Friday, 2 October 2026.

York, 46, was arrested on 23 August in East Palestine, Ohio, and was originally charged with engaging in prostitution and possessing criminal tools. The prostitution charge was later amended to disorderly conduct under a no-contest plea agreement. He has been away from the 49ers for the first three regular-season games, and for NFL league meetings, while the league conducted its own investigation. Those three games count towards the suspension, meaning York will serve the next three and is eligible to return on Tuesday, 20 October.

York accepted the decision in a statement: “Today, the NFL concluded its review, and I accept its decision in full. To my family, to the players, coaches, and employees of the San Francisco 49ers, to our fans and partners, I am deeply sorry.”

“This was an inexcusable mistake and I take full responsibility,” he added. “Your trust will have to be earned back over time, and I look forward to that work ahead.”

The 49ers have opened the season with a 3-0 record.
