Packers storm back in overtime to sink Jets 20-17

Green Bay rookie kicker Trey Smack kicked a game-winning 26-yard field goal with 5:23 remaining in overtime to defeat the New York Jets 20-17 at rainy MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, on Sunday, Reuters reported.
The Packers (1-1) were only 1-for-9 on third down but erased a 17-7 deficit after three quarters, scoring the final 13 points of the game. Green Bay had just 199 total yards in a sloppy defensive struggle that included 27 total penalties, and fumbled five times but lost just one.
Jordan Love threw two touchdown passes, including a 3-yard strike to Christian Watson that cut the Jets’ lead to 17-14 with 7:58 on the clock. Smack’s first field goal, a 34-yarder, tied the game 17-17 with 2:59 to play.
The Jets had struck first in the second half. Geno Smith and Garrett Wilson hooked up on first-and-goal at the 5 for a touchdown that gave New York its first lead of the game, 14-7, with 2:30 to go in the third quarter, and Jason Sanders pushed the lead to 10 with 11:04 remaining. Smith was 27-of-41 passing for 247 yards and a touchdown, but Green Bay limited running back Breece Hall to 29 yards on 16 carries.
The Packers’ defence sealed the turnaround, stuffing the Jets on back-to-back plays near midfield on New York’s final possession of regulation before sacks on the first two plays of overtime forced a punt that set up Smack’s winner.
