Raul Rosas Jr knocks out Raoni Barcelos in fifth round after scary collapse at UFC Fight Night

Raul Rosas Jr stopped Raoni Barcelos at 1:38 of the fifth round of the UFC Fight Night 289 main event in Las Vegas on Saturday, after a takedown sequence left Barcelos unconscious and stretchered from the Octagon; he is conscious in hospital awaiting CT scan results.

Raul Rosas Jr knocked out Raoni Barcelos in the fifth round of the UFC Fight Night 289 main event in Las Vegas on Saturday, in a fight that ended with a frightening medical scene.

The 21-year-old stopped Barcelos at 1:38 of round five at the Meta APEX after a takedown sequence near the fence left the Brazilian unconscious on the canvas. The finish came without a clear strike, and Barcelos was stretchered out of the Octagon while still appearing unconscious, MMA Junkie reported.

Barcelos, 39, had been in prime position to win going into the final round, having taken rounds two to four on all three judges’ scorecards — one judge scoring the fourth 10-8 — and threatening to submit Rosas with a rear-naked choke in the fourth.

He was transported to a Las Vegas hospital, where he underwent a CT scan. Uncrowned’s Ariel Helwani reported Barcelos was conscious, able to move his fingers, toes and body, and able to speak while awaiting the scan results. His coach Davi Ramos told fans: “Raoni is fine… everyone can stay calm.”

Rosas, now 13-1 as a professional and 7-1 in the UFC, used his post-fight interview to ask fans to pray for his opponent. “Man, he’s a warrior,” he said. “It takes two to tango.”
