Robert Lambert crowned speedway world champion in Torun

Great Britain's Robert Lambert won the Torun Grand Prix on Saturday to become Britain's first speedway world champion since 2018.

Great Britain’s Robert Lambert is the new speedway world champion after winning a dramatic three-way fight for the title at the FIM Speedway Grand Prix of Poland in Torun on Saturday.

The Norfolk racer won the Torun final ahead of Australia’s Brady Kurtz and Polish icon Bartosz Zmarzlik to clinch the 2026 Speedway GP World Championship (FIM Speedway).

Lambert becomes Britain’s ninth FIM speedway world champion — and the first since three-time champion Tai Woffinden last topped the podium in 2018.

The result ended Zmarzlik’s record-breaking run of four consecutive world titles. The Pole’s third place on the night secured him the silver medal, but denied him a seventh career gold which would have moved him clear of the all-time record of six he shares with New Zealand legend Ivan Mauger and Swedish great Tony Rickardsson.

Australian national team captain Kurtz took the bronze medal, adding to the silver he won in his debut 2025 season.
