Pakistan sack Salman Ali Agha as T20I captain, name Sahibzada Farhan to lead Sri Lanka series

The PCB has removed Salman Ali Agha as Pakistan's T20I captain and left him out of the 15-member squad, naming Asian Games silver-medallist Sahibzada Farhan to lead the three-match home series against Sri Lanka starting October 9.

Pakistan have sacked Salman Ali Agha as T20I captain, with Sahibzada Farhan named to lead the side in the three-match home series against Sri Lanka.

The Pakistan Cricket Board announced the squads on Monday for the T20I series in Rawalpindi, starting on October 9, and for the ODI tri-series against Sri Lanka and England that follows. Agha has been removed as T20I captain and is not part of the 15-member T20I squad, but retains his place in the ODI setup.

Farhan, 30, led Pakistan to the silver medal at the just-concluded Asian Games in Japan, where they lost the gold-medal match to India by 19 runs. He top-scored for Pakistan at the T20 World Cup earlier this year with 383 runs. The three T20Is against Sri Lanka will be played at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on October 9, 11 and 13.

The leadership change follows a poor run in the format. Pakistan lost three times to India at the 2025 Asia Cup, including the final, and were knocked out in the Super Eights at the 2026 T20 World Cup, missing the semi-finals.

Shaheen Shah Afridi will continue as ODI captain for the tri-series, which begins on October 18, with the final scheduled for October 31 at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
