Saquon Barkley ruled out with hamstring injury in Eagles' Week 4 clash with Rams

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley suffered a hamstring injury in the first quarter of Sunday's game against the Los Angeles Rams, was taken to the locker room for evaluation and was downgraded to out for the remainder of the game.

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley has been ruled out for the remainder of Sunday’s Week 4 game against the Los Angeles Rams after suffering a hamstring injury in the first quarter.

Barkley was hurt while running out of bounds on a 6-yard gain on the Eagles’ first play of their second offensive drive. He was slow to get up, limped to the sideline grabbing his hamstring and struggling to put weight on the leg, then walked to the medical tent and was taken to the locker room for further evaluation, USA Today and Fox Sports reported. He was initially ruled questionable to return before being downgraded to out for the rest of the game in the second quarter.

The star back had two carries for eight yards and a two-yard reception before departing. Tank Bigsby replaced him on the drive, carrying three times for six yards before the Eagles settled for a 29-yard field goal, with Will Shipley also handling backfield duties.

It is the second time this season Barkley has left a game through injury: he suffered a stinger on the first play of a Week 2 win over the Tennessee Titans, though he returned for the second half on that occasion.

Philadelphia were already playing without several key offensive players, including wide receiver DeVonta Smith, tight end Dallas Goedert and right tackle Lane Johnson, who missed the game for personal reasons, USA Today reported.
