Sourav Ganguly takes charge as Delhi Capitals head coach for IPL 2027
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has been named head coach of Delhi Capitals for the 2027 IPL, succeeding Hemang Badani.
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has been appointed head coach of the Delhi Capitals for the 2027 edition of the Indian Premier League, the franchise announced on Tuesday.
The 54-year-old takes over from Hemang Badani, under whom Delhi finished sixth in the 2026 IPL. Ganguly, who represented India in 113 Tests and 311 one-day internationals, made his coaching debut last year at Delhi’s sister franchise, Pretoria Capitals, in South Africa’s SA20 league.
“Delhi Capitals is a franchise very close to my heart… I am looking forward to working with the squad, the new season, and building a strong and fearless team,” Ganguly said in a statement.
Ganguly’s association with the Capitals dates back to 2019, when he joined as an adviser, and he later served as the team’s director of cricket in 2023-24, Reuters reported. The appointment was confirmed in a social-media post from the franchise on Tuesday afternoon, ESPNcricinfo reported, which noted that Yuvraj Singh is expected to join the back-room staff as batting coach, though no official announcement has been made to that effect.
The Capitals, who have never won the IPL title and missed the playoffs in both 2025 and 2026, are under the operational control of JSW Sports for the 2027 and 2028 seasons under the alternating two-year arrangement between the co-owners.
