Thomas Müller signs Whitecaps extension through 2027 sprint season

The Vancouver Whitecaps signed MLS All-Star Thomas Müller to a contract extension through the 2027 season on Tuesday, keeping the German legend in British Columbia for another year.

The 37-year-old midfielder has recorded 31 goal contributions — 19 goals and 12 assists — in 45 appearances across all competitions since joining the Whitecaps in August 2025.

“Since arriving just over a year ago, Thomas has fully embraced this club, this city and this province,” sporting director Axel Schuster said. “He has further strengthened the winning mentality we have built within our group over the last several years, while demonstrating just how committed he is to help this club succeed and how much he wants to win.”

The extension runs through MLS’s 2027 “sprint season”, which is set to run from February to May 2027 before the league switches to the international summer-to-spring calendar in July 2027, according to Sportsnet.

Müller has been central to Vancouver’s rise. The Whitecaps won the Western Conference and reached their first MLS Cup final last season; this season they lead the West with 50 points (15-6-5) through 26 matches.

“For me, it’s still so much fun to be out on the pitch every week, and I feel good physically,” Müller said. “I’m very happy to continue this journey with the ‘Caps, and I’m looking forward to what we can achieve together this year and next year in the Sprint Season.”

Müller starred for boyhood club Bayern Munich, winning 13 league titles and scoring 150 goals in more than 500 appearances from 2008 to 2025. He scored 45 goals in 131 caps for the German national team, winning the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
