Anthropic launches Claude Haiku 5.5, 75% cheaper than predecessor and price-matched with GPT-6 Luna

Anthropic on Wednesday launched Claude Haiku 5.5, the third model in its Claude 5.5 family this month — priced 75% below its predecessor at $0.10/$0.50 per million tokens for short prompts, matching OpenAI's GPT-6 Luna.

Anthropic on Wednesday launched Claude Haiku 5.5, the third model in its Claude 5.5 family in the past month, as the AI lab rounds out its product lineup ahead of a planned IPO, Reuters reported. It is the third model in the Claude 5.5 family to launch in the past month, Reuters reported.

The headline is price. Haiku 5.5 costs $0.10 per million input tokens and $0.50 per million output tokens for prompts under 100,000 tokens — rising to $0.50 and $2.50 for longer prompts — and Anthropic estimates workloads run about 75 per cent cheaper than on Haiku 4.5. The lower tier matches OpenAI’s GPT-6 Luna on every published rate, per VentureBeat.

Anthropic positions Haiku as the workhorse for repetitive, high-volume tasks: classification, summarisation and extraction, including live support, voice agents and in-app assistants. It is a supporting worker for Opus and Sonnet, the company’s recommended choices for demanding coding work — one customer example has Haiku fetching a revenue figure while a larger model assembles the presentation.

The model is also Anthropic’s first Haiku with built-in safeguards for a narrow set of high-risk cybersecurity requests, with most everyday tasks unaffected. VentureBeat reports the restrictions are tighter than Haiku 4.5’s, including blocking penetration testing under standard safeguards. The model ships via Anthropic’s own platform, AWS, Google Cloud and Microsoft Azure under the API identifier claude-haiku-5-5.

The launch was accompanied by a Sonnet 5.5 cache-read cut to $0.10 per million tokens and monthly API credits of $100 to $500 for Max and Team subscribers.
