80 Starlink launches in 2026: SpaceX's weekend Vandenberg flight keeps the capacity pipeline moving

A Falcon 9 lifted 27 Starlink satellites from Vandenberg on September 6 — the 80th Starlink mission of 2026 — as SpaceX shifts all Florida Starlink flights to Starship.

SpaceX crossed a milestone most launch providers will never touch: the 80th Starlink mission of 2026, with plenty of the year left.

The Labor Day weekend flight, Starlink 15-24, lifted off from Space Launch Complex 4 East at Vandenberg Space Force Base at 7:26 a.m. PDT on Sunday, September 6, carrying 27 Starlink V2 Mini satellites, Spaceflight Now reported.

The numbers behind the flight tell the SpaceX story in miniature:

  • The booster, B1088, was flying for the 19th time — it previously launched national security missions, the Transporter-12 rideshare, NASA’s SPHEREx, and 13 batches of Starlinks.
  • It landed on the droneship Of Course I Still Love You about 8.5 minutes after liftoff — the vessel’s 223rd landing and the 659th Falcon booster landing to date.

But the more consequential detail was strategic: this was the third Starlink mission since SpaceX announced it would no longer launch its broadband satellites from Florida on Falcon 9. “From here on, Starlink missions out of Florida will fly on Starship,” said Kiko Dontchev, SpaceX’s Vice President for Launch. The company is building three Starship launch towers in the state — one at LC-39A and two at SLC-37 — and aims to fly its first Florida Starship mission before the end of the year.

What it means for rural readers: every one of these launches adds real capacity to the Starlink network, and the 80-mission pace is why rural users have seen speeds improve even as millions more subscribers joined. The FCC’s September 30 satellite-spectrum vote could expand the airwaves that capacity rides on. The Florida-to-Starship shift matters because Starship is the only vehicle that can launch the bigger, far more capable V3 satellites at scale — and SpaceX’s entire plan to end congestion-era Starlink depends on that transition working. SpaceX’s confidence in that capacity is such that it has urged the FCC to wind down rural subsidy programmes entirely.
