Alexander Volkanovski retained the UFC featherweight title at UFC 333 in Abu Dhabi on Saturday, stopping Movsar Evloev by technical knockout at 4:54 of the second round (The National, MMA Junkie).

Evloev, an elite wrestler, took the champion down three times in the first round, but Volkanovski returned to his feet each time. An uppercut and a straight left rocked Evloev in the second, and Volkanovski finished the fight with ground-and-pound. The win was Volkanovski’s ninth featherweight title victory, moving him past Jose Aldo for the most in the division’s history, and handed Evloev the first defeat of his career, leaving him 20-1.

In the co-main event, Petr Yan retained the bantamweight title, beating Merab Dvalishvili by unanimous decision, 48-47 on all three scorecards, to settle their trilogy (theScore). Yan, who had dethroned Dvalishvili for the title in December, took control after a third-round kick to the liver changed the momentum, and now holds a second win over the Georgian.
