Revolut users across the UK, Ireland, France, Spain, Malta and Romania were unable to open the app, log in, move money or make card payments on the morning of Tuesday 20 October 2026. Unusually, physical cards were declined in shops, leaving customers unable to pay at tills even where the app was not involved.

Downdetector logged more than 1,500 user reports in the UK alone by around 8:09am, while StatusGator recorded over 4,000 reports overall as the outage rippled across Europe, according to reporting by Brit Brief and Today News Brief.

Revolut confirmed the disruption on X, saying: “We are currently experiencing a service disruption affecting multiple features, which may result in some services being inaccessible. Our engineering team is actively working to restore full service as quickly as possible. We appreciate your patience and apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

The company added that customer money was safe. “We can confirm that all of our customers’ funds and data remain safe,” Revolut said in a statement quoted by SFG Media.

Customers also reported that Revolut’s public status page continued to show all systems operational while problems were being reported, compounding frustration during the outage. As of Tuesday afternoon, the company had given no cause for the disruption and no timeline for full restoration.

Revolut, headquartered in London, counts more than 80 million personal customers and operates as a bank in more than 30 countries.
